1995-98 It’s Only Rock and Roll: Rock and Roll Currents in Contemporary Art

Phoenix Art Museum

Rubin conceived the idea for this exhibition while the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum was under construction. When Rubin left the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art to move to Phoenix, he offered administrative responsibilities to Cleveland-based Exhibition Management, Inc., which produced a handsome book published by Prestel Verlag and toured the exhibition to thirteen venues from 1995-1998.  This was the first major survey to examine how rock-and-roll culture had influenced contemporary art.
