At the time Rubin curated this exhibition, the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City had recently replaced SoHo as the epicenter for cutting edge contemporary art galleries. This exhibition was a microcosm of that scene, with the curator selecting one artist from each of several Chelsea galleries.
