1985 Concerning the Spiritual: The Eighties
Emanuel Walter/Atholl McBean Galleries, San Francisco Art Institute
In his early critical writings, Rubin championed a number of Los Angeles artists who were addressing spirituality in a contemporary context. After moving to San Francisco, he observed similar developments. This exhibition documented the work of California artists who shared a “spiritual aesthetic sensibility” informed by Old Master art, as well as an interest in Jungian symbols.
